Beginning Podcasting with CCC: a hands-on workshop series

By Autumn Ware

Do you have a podcast idea but no idea where to start a podcast? I’ve been there.

I spent most of 2023 learning the ropes – from developing an idea to refining a recording. My husband Jack and I dove headfirst into podcasting without a clue or float wings, and we’re still treading water most days. Creating a stand-out podcast takes a lot of time and tedious work, but it’s also rewarding. I’ve had the opportunity to get to know some amazing locals producing EPIC Carteret, and with four episodes under our belt and a second season about to launch, we’ve already had more than 1,500 downloads, won an Artist’s Grant from the NC Arts Council, and hosted a successful arts event of our own. In other words, it’s worth it.

If you’d like to test the waters yourself, join me for “Beginning Podcasting,” a workshop series through the Carteret Community College Life Enrichment program designed for aspiring podcasters in the Crystal Coast community. I’m hoping I can give you an advantage in your own podcasting career with some of the knowledge and skills I lacked a year ago when I got started.

When and Where?

Mark your calendars for four consecutive Saturdays: March 16, 23, and 30 and April 6, from 10 am to 12 pm. We’re thrilled to host this series at the cozy, welcoming Reed’s Coffee Shop, a local favorite for inspiration and creativity. You’ll be learning in a supportive atmosphere with the added perk of the delicious brews that Reed’s is famous for.

What Will You Learn?

“Beginning Podcasting” is a hands-on experience that covers the big picture, and some of the finer points, of starting a podcast. From the initial idea to the final upload, here’s a sneak peek into our curriculum:

  • Developing Unique Podcast Ideas: Unearth your niche and learn how to turn your interests into engaging podcast content.
  • Mastering the Art of Storytelling: Discover the power of storytelling and how to captivate your audience from the first minute.
  • Identifying and Engaging Your Target Audience: Learn strategies for identifying your ideal listeners and techniques to keep them coming back for more.
