Summer Spirits 2024
A Bare Bones Broadcast of Winter Hauntings 2024

We’ve distilled the spirit of our Winter Hauntings to a chilling hour of storytelling in poem, prose and music.
Our broadcast of Summer Spirits, includes a rousing rendition of John Greenleaf Whittier’s “The Palantine” performed by local playwright and actor Doug Miron; poems written and read by Pamlico County Poet Laureate Malaika King Albrecht; songs written and performed by the musical duo Emily and John Carter (a.k.a. Chick ‘N’ Biscuit); and the top three stories in our 2023 ghost story competition “A Fireside Chat” by Willow Redd, “Heaven or Hell” by Jessi Waugh, and contest winner “The Causeway” by Melissa Kelley performed by Carteret Community Theater superstars Alex Russell, Matt Brooks, and Kimberly Murdoch.
Winter Hauntings 2024 was a hit!
With your support and the enthusiasm of this engaged community, our inaugural ghost story event raised $800 $900 for the Title Wave Book Mobile! Learn more about Amanda McCall’s epic book mobile.

We couldn’t have done it without Carteret Community Theater, Carteret Writers, and our Ghostly Galleon sponsor Public Radio East!
Morehead City Train Depot
On January 11, local literature lovers gathered at the charming historic train depot in downtown Morehead City to spend the long, moonless night sharing in the age old tradition of telling ghost stories together. The depot’s cozy space was perfect for the occasion, and afterwards, the central location made it easy for attendees to haunt local restaurants and bars to discuss the evening’s entertainment.
This project is supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, with administration by the Craven Arts Council & Gallery.
